Remigijus Šimašius
Remigijus Šimašius was born on 12 January 1974 in Tauragė. Education In 1997 graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Law, with a lawyer’s diploma (equivalent to Master's degree) In 2002 defended a doctoral dissertation on Legal Pluralism at the Department of Philosophy of Law of the Faculty of Law of the Lithuanian University of Law and obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy On-the-job training and additional education In 1995 completed a course in Liberalism and Economic Reform at the Lithuanian Free Market Institute In 1997 underwent a training course at US institute Heritage Foundation (Santa Cruz Institute programme Legislation Drafting and NGO Development) In 2000 completed a training course entitled New Public Management: Lean State, Lean Government at the International Academy for Leadership of Friedrich Naumann Foundation In 2001 completed a training course entitled Competition Policy in Transition: Theory, Implementation and Challenges at the Central European University In 2004 attended the Summer University at Ludwig von Mises Institute and passed an examination of the Austrian Economic School Work experience and career 1995-2004 - a legal expert and project manager for the Lithuanian Free Market Institute 2001-2006 - a Member of the Vilnius City Council 2004-2006 - Vice-President of Lithuanian Free Market Institute, headed an expert team 2003-2007 - Chairman of the editorial panel of scientific-practical journal Legal Problems, wrote articles on theory of law 2004-2008 - a member of the Board of Transparency International Lithuania 2006-2008 - President of Lithuanian Free Market Institute On 10 December 2008 became the Minister of Justice of the 15th Government Membership of official commissions and working groups 1997–1998 - a member of the working group of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour for the preparation of the Law on Charity and Sponsorship In 1998 - a member of the working group of the Ministry of Finance for the preparation of the concept of Law on the Budget Structure In 1999 - a member of the Government’s commission for drafting legal acts related to funding of educational establishments 1999–2003 - the chairman of the Commission for Non-Governmental Organisation Affairs under the Government 2002–2003 - the chairman of the working group under the President’s commission for the preparation of a legislative model In 2003 – a member of the working group of the Ministry of Justice for drafting the Law on Associations In 2005 – a member of the Commission for the Preparation of the National Energy Strategy Social activities 1995-2005 - a member of the Lithuanian Liberal Union 1996-1998 - provided legal assistance to non-profit organisations 1996-2005 - cooperated with the Non-Governmental Organisations Information and Support Centre (NISC), providing consultations to non-governmental organisations and analysing their legal environment 1997-1998 - chairman of non-government organisation Lithuanian Liberal Youth 1998-1999 - a member of the Board of the Lithuanian Liberal Union In 1999 - published a book entitled Non-Governmental Organisations: Regulation in Lithuania and Western Experience 1999-2000 - Chairman of the Committee of Justice of the Lithuanian Liberal Union 2002-2005 - lectured in theory of law and conducted seminars at the Lithuanian University of Law 2005-2008 - a lecturer at the Vilnius University Faculty of Law, a member of the Department of Theory and History of Law Publishes his internet blog http://simasius.blogas.lt/ Languages Lithuanian (native), English and Russian.
